Workers Salaries Are Unpaid At Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!
We’ve heard a lot of downsizing, shutting down of companies that affect many workers in losing their job.
An unfortunate news strikes the people at Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad when it’s announced that they would be total shutdown starting this Thursday, until God knows when.

It has been revealed that all publications under the Utusan Group; Utusan Malaysia, Mingguan Malaysia, Kosmo!, and Kosmo! Ahad will ceased operation for their print and online publications.
This threat is due to failing in selling off some assets
Taufek Razak, the chief of Utusan Malaysia’s National Union of Journalist (NUJ) had a meeting with the Executive Chairman of Utusan Group, Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir and the outcome is to ceased publications as they’re unable to bear the costs.
Here’s a statement from Taufek during the press after the protest:
“The management (Utusan Group) made the decision because they have insufficient funds to pay for workers’ current, future and overdue salaries. They have no money and they did not dispose of any current assets”
The salaries for Utusan’s executive staff were delayed for two months, with the last partial payment of RM2,000 being paid in June this year. Despite having a voluntary separation scheme (VSS), the VSS payments have also been delayed. The staffs cut has been recorded from 1,400 to 823.
Another sad event is that some of the staffs still continued working even without salaries in showing that they have ‘faith’ that things will get better. There has been reported there’s even a staff needs to borrow from loan shark to pay their debt and loans.
